Where were the clouds? I looked for "my sky." Not here. There goes the wide vistas. Sigh.
Stop. Look. Listen. Look again. But at what?
I looked down. There on the rocks, what was that? Check the viewfinder. In the frame a tiny portion of the great rock I was standing on. Look again. The smaller I composed, the simpler I arranged- the larger and deeper the image appeared. How was this possible?
Neither cypress, seascapes, or sand had my attention, but in the small surface sections of the vast rocks that lined Point Lobos' shore a palette and scope that I was familiar with had found me.
Strange. Completely different from my work until now. Yet, somehow very much the same. I spent two mornings photographing along the shoreline.
The smaller I composed, the simpler I arranged- the larger and deeper the image appeared.
